With a little detour, you can also use Google Translate in WhatsApp to easily display foreign words or phrases in German.

Google Translate in WhatsApp: First set up the translator

Do you write to friends from abroad on WhatsApp and occasionally need to look up a few words? Then it’s handy to integrate Google Translate into the app. This is how to do it if you want to use Google Translate in WhatsApp:

  • Install the Google Translate app from the PlayStore or AppStore.

  • Start the app and go to your profile photo, which you can see in the top right.

  • Go to Settings and then to the “Tap to Translate” option.

  • Activate the “Tap to Translate”, “Floating Symbol On” and “Automatically Translate Copied Text” functions.

  • Give the app the permissions it needs and allow Google Translate to appear on top of other apps when asked.

Use Google Translate in WhatsApp

Once you have installed Google Translate and made the necessary settings, open WhatsApp.

  • Tap the message thread you want to translate.

  • Tap the word or phrase you want to translate and hold your finger on the screen to highlight the text.

  • Select the three dots in the top right corner and then “Copy” to move the text to the clipboard.

  • Click on the Translate icon on the screen to open Google Translate. The copied text is automatically inserted and translated into the desired target language.
