Jira Dark Mode not only makes working in low light more comfortable, but also helps to protect your eyes during long work sessions.
How to activate Dark Mode in Jira Cloud
Dark Mode is a popular feature that can be integrated into Jira Cloud. With just a few steps, the user interface can be adapted to a dark color scheme.
- Check your Jira version: Dark Mode is only available in Jira Cloud by default. If you are using Jira Server or Data Center, you will need an extension or a theme plugin.
- Navigate to the profile settings: Click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select “Settings”.
- Open the theme selection: You can find the option to select color schemes under the “Appearance” tab. Select “Dark” here.
- Save your selection: After you have made your selection, the dark theme will be applied immediately and you can use the new look straight away.
- Check browser extensions: If your Jira instance doesn’t offer Dark Mode, use tools like “Dark Reader” that provide similar functionality.
Activating Dark Mode in Jira Server
If you use Jira Server or Data Center, activating Dark Mode requires a different approach. Plugins and customizations can help here.
- Install a dark mode plugin: Visit the Atlassian Marketplace and search for a suitable plugin like “ThemeBuilder” or “Dark Features”. Install the plugin via the admin interface.
- Activate the theme: After installation, go to the plugin settings and select a dark color scheme.
- Make CSS adjustments: If no plugin is available, you can integrate your own CSS rules via the admin panel. However, this requires technical know-how.
- Test run: After activation, check whether all elements are displayed correctly. Some plugins require fine-tuning.
- Insider tip: Jira’s Dark Mode, in combination with an eye-friendly monitor, provides even better results. Additionally, activate the night mode of your operating system to further minimize eye strain. Do you work with multiple Jira instances? Synchronize the themes across all accounts for a consistent user experience.
