Before you can download new apps for your Android smartphone or tablet, you need to set up a free Play Store account.
How to set up a new Play Store account
If you already have a Google account, you can also use the Play Store with it. When you start your smartphone for the first time, the configuration assistant will prompt you to sign in to your Google account. However, you can also do this later:
- Open the app drawer on your smartphone (the overview of all installed apps) and open the “Settings”.
- Select the entry “Passwords, Passkeys & Accounts”. Depending on the Android version, this may also be called a little differently (for example, “Accounts & Synchronization”).
- Swipe up until you reach the “Add Account” option. Tap it.
- Select the account type “Google”. Now sign in with the access data of your Google account. If you don’t have a Google account yet, select “Create account” instead.
- Follow the steps in the wizard to complete the registration. You can now open the Play Store by opening the corresponding app.
- Tip: You can open the Play Store in your PC’s browser and purchase apps or download them for free to your phone. To do so, sign in with the same Google account that you use on your mobile device.
Create multiple Google Play Store accounts
You can set up multiple user accounts in the Play Store and use them alternately. This allows multiple users to share a device. Or you can use it to separate private and business content.
- Open the Play Store on your smartphone or tablet.
- First tap your profile picture in the top right corner and then tap the arrow symbol to the right of your username.
- Select the “Add another account” option.
- Now sign in with the Google account you want to add. To do this, enter your email address and password. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
- You can now switch between accounts by tapping your profile picture ☻ the arrow icon ☻ the desired account in Google Play.
