If you use an iPhone, you may want to be able to display the temperature of the device. In this practical tip, we will explain how this works.
Display the iPhone temperature using an app
Some iPhone users will already have experienced their device issuing a warning message when it is overheating. The message “The iPhone needs to cool down before it can be used.” prompts users not to use their Apple smartphone for a while to avoid damaging it. This indicates that the iPhone has an internal temperature sensor. The following programs offer you the option of displaying at least the battery temperature on your iPhone:
- Battery and charger test: In addition to values such as capacity and overall condition, the app reportedly also reads the temperature of the battery. The small application can be found in Apple’s App Store.
- coconutBattery 3: The coconutBattery 3 program can also read the battery data including its operating temperature. However, this is not an app, but an application exclusively for macOS. So if you use an Apple computer, you can connect your iPhone to it and get the battery temperature.
Using the iPhone as a thermometer
On the other hand, anyone who wants to measure the external temperature faces a different problem: the iPhone does not have a sensor for the ambient temperature. That’s why the Apple smartphone can’t be used as a classic thermometer.
- Most thermometer apps, such as Thermo iPhone/iPad app, don’t measure temperature but access online weather services and simply display weather data via GPS.
- If you want to see the actual temperature on your iPhone or use it as a clinical thermometer, you’ll need to connect the appropriate hardware to the device. Thermometers such as those from Govee, ORIA and Brifit use the Bluetooth interface to determine the room temperature, for example, in corresponding apps. In addition, these devices can also be used as hygrometers – and thus even measure humidity.
