If your fuel injector is defective and you continue driving, it can cause serious damage to your car’s engine.
Defective fuel injector: continuing to drive will cause the following damage
Since the injector is responsible for supplying fuel to your engine, it is essential and, if it is defective, can thus lead to a number of complications if you continue driving your car despite the defect. If an injector no longer functions properly, this will manifest itself in different ways depending on the cause of the defect.
- Not in all cases, a defect can be assumed immediately, as it is also possible that the injectors are simply dirty. With an engine system cleaner, you can check at home to see if it is only a matter of contamination.
- If the engine is still not working properly after the cleaning attempt, you should take the car to the workshop at the next opportunity, as regular driving can cause the engine to overheat if the injectors are not feeding enough fuel. The resulting damage is significantly more expensive to repair than replacing or cleaning the injectors.
- A typical indication of one or more defective injectors are misfires, for example, which can damage parts of the engine over time and are particularly dangerous in traffic, as they cause a loss of speed when accelerating. There is a risk of an accident during overtaking maneuvers if you lose speed abruptly.
- If you notice increased fuel consumption when driving your car, this can also be an indication of defective injectors. Regardless of this, a noticeable smell of petrol inside the vehicle also indicates faulty injectors
- Other symptoms include unusual noises coming from the engine when driving, noticeable jerking when driving or when the car is idling, and starting problems when the engine does not start as usual right away. In addition, the control light comes on in many cars when it is no longer running smoothly.
