Open Office: Setting up documents in landscape format

Landscape format is useful if you not only have text but also want to include graphics. With Open Office, you can also set up your document directly in landscape format.

  • Start your Open Office Writer and open a blank document.
  • In the upper part of the window, open the “Format” menu.
  • Click on the sub-item “Page” to open a dialog box.
  • Select the “Page” tab.
  • Click on “Landscape” under Orientation and confirm your selection with “OK”.

Set landscape in Open Office for one page only

It is also possible to set only one page horizontally, not the whole document.

  • Click at the top of the page you want to align horizontally.
  • Go to “Insert” and “Manual Break”.
  • Then click on “Page Break” and select “Landscape” from the drop-down menu under “Template”.
  • Click “Ok” to confirm.
  • Now all subsequent pages will be in landscape format. If you only want one page in landscape format and the following pages in portrait format, click on the beginning of the next page, go back to the “Insert menu” and repeat the individual steps until you select “Standard” as the template.
