PS5: How to share games

by Pramith

The PS5 allows you to share games with others. This is useful for people who don’t own the game in question.

Share games with another PS5

The sharing function of the Playstation 5 is useful if you want to share games with other users who do not own them themselves. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • First, you need to share your PSN login information with the other person. After they have logged out with their information, they can now log in with your information.
  • The “Add User” function is used for this. This is used to create a new user account on the console with your data. Therefore, only offer this method of sharing if you are absolutely sure that your user account will not be misused.
  • During the registration process, you must select and activate the “Console sharing and offline play” option using your controller. Confirm the process.
  • Now all your games are available in the game library and can be downloaded. These games can also be played with the other people’s accounts.

Share games on a PS5 console

If multiple accounts are using a PlayStation 5 console, it is also possible to share a game with all accounts.

  • First, open the settings with the account on which the game you want to share is located.
  • Go to “Users and Accounts”, then “Other” and finally to “Console Sharing and Offline Play”.
  • There, click Enable. Now all accounts on this PS5 can access this game, download it, and play it.
  • This way, if you are part of a family or group of friends, you only have to buy a game once and you can still use it with multiple accounts.
  • Important: The “Console Sharing and Offline Play” feature can only be activated on one console at a time. So if you share the account with people on a different PS5, you won’t be able to use the feature on your console and vice versa.

PS5: Share PS4 games

Due to the backwards compatibility of the PS5, it is also possible to share PS4 games.

  • The majority of PS4 games are compatible. You can share them in the same way as PS5 games.
  • Only the following titles are not backwards compatible: Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One, Hitman Go: Definitive Edition, Just Deal With It!, Robinson: The Journey, Shadwen and We Sing. The list is subject to change as Sony can add and remove games from it.
  • Please note that some PS4-specific features are not available on PS5 and vice versa. This can be seen in the game description or on the game’s PSN page.
