You can create your own Beat Saber maps. Free tools are available for this that require little training.
Creating Beat Saber maps: What you need
Beat Saber allows you to create your own maps without any prior knowledge. Good preparation is important to ensure that mapping is as effective as possible:
- A suitable map editor is essential. For example, you can use the official Beat Saber editor, which is available as a Steam tool. There are also community-made editors, such as ChroMapper or the browser solution Beatmapper.
- The official Beat Saber editor allows you to create maps in VR. The community solutions, on the other hand, can be used without VR glasses. Choose the variant you like more.
- You will also need an audio editor such as Audacity, GarageBand or Magix Music Maker. You use this to customize the respective audio file so that you can then insert it into the Beat Saber map.
- The song must be saved in.OGG format. To do this, simply import the desired audio track into the audio editor and export it as an.OGG file. Alternatively, this is also possible using an online converter.
- Furthermore, you should already have the cover image. It must be in.JPG or.PNG format and ideally 512 x 512 pixels in size.
Step by step to your custom song: detailed instructions
Once you have completed all the preparations, the Beat Saber mapping process can begin. The instructions will guide you through the necessary steps using the Beatmapper browser application as an example. Depending on the map editor you are using, the steps may be slightly different.
- First, you need to upload the desired song and cover image. In the same window, you can define important map information such as the name, the creator and the difficulty. Click Create new song to start the editing process.
- Now you can start placing blocks and other elements on each individual beat. You can precisely determine the position, alignment and duration and jump to the desired beat using the bar below.
- Depending on the length and complexity of the song, it may take quite a while to finish the map. Some map editors offer an auto-fill function if you want to use it.
- Once you have set the desired elements, switch to the events. There you can customize the lighting effects of the map exactly as you want them, for example, when certain effects are triggered or how long they last in which intensity.
- Take your time with the events as well, as they are essential for the look and flow of the map. It helps to test the map often to check exactly where improvements are still needed.
- Once you have finished creating the map, you can fill in the remaining information and make settings. For example, it is possible to allow individual colors or extensions.
- Finally, download the map to load it directly into the game as a custom song. Our additional practical tip explains exactly how this works.
