You can assign games to specific graphics cards if more than one is installed in your PC or notebook. This is possible with AMD and Nvidia GPUs.
Nvidia graphics cards: assigning games made easy
If you have an Nvidia model in addition to your onboard graphics card, you will need the latest graphics driver for your hardware. You can then assign the card to individual games and programs:
- Make sure that your Nvidia GPU is up to date. Then start the Nvidia control panel by clicking on the small up arrow in the task bar.
- Right-click on the Nvidia symbol to open a context menu. In this menu, select Nvidia Control Panel. Wait until the program opens.
- In the new window, select Manage 3D Settings in the left column. Then switch to the Program Settings tab.
- Select the desired game from the list. If it is not listed, you can select the exe file manually using the Add button.
- Then select the entry NVIDIA high-performance processor in the second drop-down menu. Click Apply to confirm the change. You can then close the Nvidia control panel.
- Note: Alternatively, you can activate the Nvidia graphics card for all programs and games in the Global Settings tab in the same way.
AMD: Assign graphics card to individual games
You can also assign AMD Radeon graphics cards to individual programs and games:
- Install the latest driver version for your AMD graphics card using the AMD Software Adrenalin Edition. Then right-click on the desktop with the mouse and select Radeon Settings from the context menu.
- In the next window, click on Settings and then on Additional Settings. Next, go to the Performance option.
- In the Performance menu, navigate to the option Switchable Graphics – Applications. You will then see an overview of all the applications on your PC.
- Search for the game you want and select it. Then, decide on the high-performance profile for the game’s graphics settings. From now on, the game will only be started via the Radeon GPU.
