Being the smallest or tallest person in the world undoubtedly attracts attention everywhere. But it’s certainly not always funny for the people concerned
The smallest person in the world – that’s how tall he is
The fame of being the tallest or shortest person in the world is something those affected would probably gladly do without. Not only are they gawked at everywhere, but their everyday life is also much more difficult than that of “normal” sized people. In addition, people who are exceptionally tall often have to contend with serious health problems.
- The smallest person in the world to date was Chandra Bahadur Dangi. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the man from Nepal was 54.6 centimetres tall. But not only his height is amazing. The smallest person in the world died in 2015 at the age of 76. Such an old age is rather unusual for people who are extremely short or extremely tall.
- The world’s shortest person is currently a woman. Born in India in 1993, Jyoti Amge is 62.8 centimetres tall. This makes her not only the smallest woman in the world, but also the smallest person
- However, Amge is not the smallest woman in the world to date. This record is held by the Dutch woman Pauline Musters, who lived from 1876 to 1895. Musters reached a height of 61 centimetres.
- The world’s shortest man is currently Afshin Ghaderzadeh from Iran. Born in 2002, Ghaderzadeh is a little taller than Dangi at 65.24 centimeters. At birth, Ghaderzadeh weighed just 700 grams. Today, the smallest man in the world weighs around 6.5 kilograms.
The tallest people in the world – that’s them
In terms of size, there are incredible differences between the smallest people in the world and the tallest people in the world. The difference in height is actually significantly more than two meters:
- The tallest person in the world to date is the American Robert Pershing Wadlow. Born in Illinois in 1918, Wadlow reached the state height of 2.72 meters. However, he died very young at the age of just 22. A life-size statue was erected in his hometown of Alton in his honor in 1986.
- The world’s current tallest person comes from Turkey and is a little smaller than Wadlow. Born in 1982, Sultan Kösen is 2.51 meters tall.
- In addition to his height, Kösen is also in the Guinness Book of World Records for his enormous hands. These are 28.5 centimetres long, measured from the wrist to the middle fingertip.
