Transferring files to an iPhone: Wireless methods

iPhones make it very easy for you to transfer files to your Apple smartphone. You can use the following options:

  • iCloud can be used to transfer files from all kinds of end devices to the iPhone without much effort. Install the iCloud application, log in with your Apple ID and then you can simply copy files to iCloud. Then download them via your iPhone.
  • You can transfer individual files from another Apple device to iPhones via AirDrop. To do this, you must activate the AirDrop function via the Control Center to allow file transfer.
  • Other cloud storage services such as Dropbox or Mega can also be used to transfer files to your iPhone. To do this, either install the app or use the corresponding web application and log in with the respective account. You can then drag files to your iPhone
  • Alternatively, you can use your Mac to send files to your iPhone via a file server. To do this, use the iPhone Files app to establish a connection to the file server that you have previously created on your Mac using file sharing.

Transferring files to iPhone: Wired options

It is also possible to establish a direct connection between the iPhone and another device in order to transfer files.

  • Using an external USB drive or SD card with an adapter is quick and easy. Connect the device and then use the Files app to copy the desired files to the iPhone.
  • Alternatively, connect the iPhone directly to a Mac using a suitable cable. It must be a Lightning or USB-C to USB A cable.
  • Find the iPhone in the Finder. There you have access to the device’s memory and can transfer files there.
  • If you are using a Windows computer instead, you will need iTunes. After connecting the iPhone to the PC, you can use the software to drag files to the smartphone via file sharing.
