Bards in Baldur’s Gate 3 are considered multi-talented and can be individually adapted to your play style. They are primarily used as a support class
Baldur’s Gate 3: Bards in portrait
The bard is a class that can be used in a variety of ways. They are creative minds who inspire with poetry, music and stories.
- These minstrels use one of the available instruments, including flutes or lutes, to cast spells. Unlike other magic classes, they rely on their charisma, which is one of the class’s most important attributes.
- Furthermore, they are good with light weapons and armor, which, combined with a preferably high dexterity value, keeps them mobile on the battlefield. They are only suitable for close combat in emergencies
- For this reason, bards can be used effectively as support. They can use spells to heal, manipulate and, above all, crowd control to make life difficult for their opponents.
- Your party, on the other hand, benefits from the bard-specific abilities. With Bardic Inspiration, you can grant a certain number of characters a bonus of W6, W8 or W10 (depending on their level) after each long rest. You can use this die for attacks, saving throws or a check
- Furthermore, there are certain spells that only bards can cast. For example, you can use the Song of Rest to gain an additional short rest. All-rounder, on the other hand, adds half your practice bonus to any check in which you are not proficient.
- This allows you to customize bards to a great extent. Due to their abilities, they are also well suited for multiclassing.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Information on the Bard Schools
When you choose a bard or bardess, you select one of the schools available to the class from the third level onwards. These are the three subclasses.
- The School of the Sword is ideal for all minstrels who want to be better equipped for close combat. The damage dealt is increased and you can fill the front line if you don’t have enough frontline fighters available
- With the School of Valor, on the other hand, you can rely on an all-rounder in the sense of a cleric. You can attack better, but your healing powers also improve significantly
- The School of Knowledge, on the other hand, ensures that you have more spells and abilities for manipulation and crowd control at your disposal. If you want to expand your character’s magical potential, choose this school
