If you know timelapse, you know roughly what hyperlapse is. It is the more advanced form of time-lapse photography or videography
What is hyperlapse and how do you do it?
To describe what hyperlapse is, you need to imagine a time-lapse video in which the camera is also moving. This gives you a smoother image flow in videos than in accelerated videos, because you have not moved faster during the recording. Hyperlapse could therefore be described as an advanced form of time-lapse photography or videography that uses a combination of motion and time-lapse.
- To create a hyperlapse shot, position the camera stably on a tripod and select a starting point and a predetermined route.
- During the time-lapse recording, move the camera along this route in small steps. This can be done step by step forwards, backwards or sideways.
- The movement of the camera gives the resulting video a dynamic and impressive quality.
- After recording, image stabilization and post-production steps may be required to optimize the quality. However, the images are cropped in the process, which reduces the image quality. You should therefore start with the highest possible resolution of your Hyperlapse
- Additional image stabilization is particularly helpful with cameras and cell phones, for example by adding a gimbal that additionally supports the built-in electronic image stabilizer.
- There are various apps and software, such as Microsoft Hyperlapse or Instagram Hyperlapse, which facilitate this technique.
- Modern cell phones, action cams such as the GoPro or drones such as the DJI Mavic 2 Pro also offer support for this technology. These have built-in image stabilizers that cushion movements particularly effectively, resulting in fewer blurred shots
