Android 14 is here. The release of the operating system took place in October 2023. Little by little, Android smartphones are now being supplied with the new update.
Android 14: All info on the release
On 4 October, Google released Android 14, a new version of its operating system.
- If you have a Google smartphone in the Pixel 5, 6 or 7 range, you can download the update now. The update is also available for the Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel Fold or Pixel Tablet.
- If you have a smartphone from another manufacturer, you will have to be patient. This is because the update must first be adapted to the devices.
- Current top smartphones will receive the update first. Here you can expect a software update in the next few weeks.
- It takes a little longer with cheaper or older smartphones. It is also possible that your smartphone will no longer receive an update to Android 14. This is usually the case if you have a smartphone that is more than 3 years old.
Android 14: What’s new
Android 14 comes with a number of new features.
- You can personalise the home and lock screen with new options. Google provides new templates for fonts, widgets and colours. You can also add shortcuts to the lock screen. This allows you to quickly open an app, for example.
- Furthermore, the battery life is to be improved with Android 14. Google has adjusted the system’s background processes so that they require less energy. How big the improvement is, however, depends on your smartphone.
- Furthermore, Android 14 brings improvements in terms of data protection. Here you can restrict access to photos and videos. You can now specify exactly which photos and videos an app can access.
- There is also an improvement when you share your location with an app. This way, you will be notified when the app shares the location data with third parties.
