The Tiefling lady Karlach is one of the companions you can recruit and romance in Baldur’s Gate 3
This is the location of Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3
Like many other companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can miss Karlach if you don’t encounter the Tiefling lady in time at her location.
- Karlach can already be found and recruited in Act 1. Its location is below the customs house by the river. You can reach it by going north-east from the destroyed village. A bit above the customs house there is also a quick travel point that is worth activating.
- It is easiest if you have recruited Wyll before, who is in the Emerald Grove. Because in the dialogue with Wyll you will learn about a devil who is said to be in the area and whose trail Wyll is already on. Once you have started the quest, you will now also be shown a quest marker on the map, which makes finding the location much easier.
- In the custom house are a handful of paladins of the god Tyr, who are also hunting Karlach. Follow the blood trail down the river arm and get ready to talk to Karlach. By talking to her, you will learn that the paladins in the custom house are not real paladins, but hired assassins sent to kill Karlach.
- If you assure Karlach that you will help her in the fight with the fake paladins, it is now back to the custom house. It is worth stocking up on healing potions before the battle and taking a long rest so that you start the battle in the best possible way. It is also advantageous to take a mixture of close-range and long-range fighters with you, as the enemies are on different floors of the house.
- After the fight, Karlach briefly loses control and runs around – literally – in a rage, setting the interior of the building on fire. Be careful that your characters do not stand in the trail of flames and thus suffer further damage. A short time later, Karlach has calmed down and can then finally be recruited.
How to start the romance with Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3
After you have supported Karlach in battle and then recruited her, almost nothing stands in the way of romance with the Tiefling from Baldur’s Gate 3.
- The only problem that prevents you from entering into a relationship with Karlach is the infernal engine that was inserted into her by the archdemoness Zariel instead of a heart. While this ensures that Karlach can use this energy for herself in battle, it threatens to overheat and kill Karlach later on. It also ensures that Karlach emits extremely high temperatures and thus cannot be touched.
- To solve this problem, you need a material called infernal iron. The resource can be found in several places in each act. In Act 1, for example, it can be found in the destroyed village in the forge on the ground floor, among other places. You need a total of two copies of the iron to keep Karlach’s heart from exploding.
- Regardless, you must have Karlach in your group frequently and convince him by virtuous behaviour. Whenever you have the opportunity to show honourable behaviour in dialogues, you should do so in order to rise in Karlach’s favour and thus make romance possible. Similarly, you should refrain from making decisions that Karlach considers despicable. For example, attacking the Smaradhain with Minthara on the Tieflings.
- In order to be allowed to get close to Karlach, you must first get a grip on her burning heart. To do this, seek out the Tiefling blacksmith Dammon in Act 1 in the Emerald Grove, in Act 2 in the Last Light Inn or in Act 3 in the city of Baldur’s Gate, who can help you out with the infernal iron, at least for a short time. Once you have the first piece of iron attached by Dammon, there is now the dialogue option of a kiss.
- After the cutscene you should go back to the camp to talk to Karlach. Tell her about an idea to cool down the Tiefling barbarian. Afterwards, either throw a bottle of water at Karlach, use a water or ice spell on her or shoot her with an ice arrow to unlock more flirting options in the dialogue.
- Only in Act 2 will you have the opportunity to continue the romance with Karlach. At the Last Light Inn base, you will once again meet Dammon, the Tiefling Blacksmith, to whom you will hand over the second Infernal Iron at this point to repair Karlach’s heart. Afterwards, you can once again move on to a kiss. Afterwards you go into the camp and initiate the evening. Here you now talk to Karlach and continue flirting with her.
- To get to the Last Light Inn more easily, it helps to find or repair the moon lantern.
- After the conversation in the evening at camp, start a long rest, triggering the first love scene. The second love scene is started in Act 3 once you have arrived in Baldur’s Gate’s lower district and you have a high enough approval rating from Karlach.
