If you are wondering what NLP coaching means, you are not alone. NLP means Neurolinguistic Programming and originated in the early 70s. We have looked into the process, costs and effect of NLP coaching.
NLP coaching – origin and effect
Most of us know that there is such a thing as NLP coaching. But very few of us know what the abbreviation NLP or the term Neurolinguistic Programming means. Yet NLP plays an increasingly important role in today’s world. This is an extremely effective collection of concepts and tools for communication and personality development. Let’s take a closer look.
- NLP was developed by Richard Bandler, Frank Pucelik and John Grinder at the University of California. They were concerned with the question of why some psychotherapists were more successful than others.
- They observed and analysed the therapy methods of Fritz Perls (founder of Gestalt therapy), Virginia Satir (an extraordinary family therapist) and Milton Erickson (developer of our current hypnotherapy).
- Bandler and Grinder came to hypothesise that successful psychotherapists share similar patterns of behaviour in their work with patients. These common patterns of behaviour are now known as NLP.
- The three founders of NLP prepared their findings in great detail and refined them through their own seminars and observations with other students. The NLP model was born.
- The name Neurolinguistic Programming comes from the fact that the strategies of the model strongly address the functions of our nervous system. Unwanted feelings and behaviour patterns are brought into harmony with themselves.
- Through practical applications and sufficient time and space for self-awareness and reflection, it becomes possible for people to condition themselves and certain behaviours differently and to bring about lasting changes in their own lives.
NLP coaching – process and costs
Now ask yourself for whom NLP coaching is helpful at all and how the coaching takes place? NLP coaching is not only suitable for the individual, but also for couples. For example, do you want to dissolve fears and blockages, find clarity in life, strengthen self-confidence or learn appreciative communication with your partner? Then NLP coaching can be the right support for you.
- Relationship building: This is where the foundation for successful coaching is laid. This phase is for the coach and client to get to know each other. A trusting relationship should be created.
- Assessment of strengths and weaknesses: What resources are available to the client to achieve their goals? Is the client even aware of what capacities he has? How can I work on my weaknesses?
- Setting goals: Goals are now defined together according to the SMART principle. It is helpful if the client has a precise idea of his goals. This increases the chances of achieving his goals.
- Finding solutions: Together they now work out how to achieve the set goals. Drawing up a roadmap or action plan helps to implement the measures.
- The costs vary depending on the provider and the offer. For a one-to-one session of 45 – 60 minutes they are around €100.00 – €160.00. For weekend seminars they can increase up to 1,000.00 €. It is best to inform yourself in advance with various providers.
