The right basic camping equipment ensures a relaxing stay in the great outdoors. We help you in the planning phase of your trip
Basic camping equipment: comfort and accommodation
One of the most important factors in camping is accommodation. Since there is no need to book hotels, it is even more important to choose the right equipment, such as the tent. This is the only way you can relax without being exposed to the weather and pesky animals like mosquitoes.
- Tent: The numerous types of tents do not make it easy to choose a suitable model. Choose your tent according to the destination, duration and type of trip, number of people and size. If you are exploring Sweden as a couple with a backpack, you will need a different model than if you are going to Spain by car in a large group.
- Sleeping bag: A sleeping bag is of course part of the basic camping equipment. Choose it not only according to the equipment, but also according to the temperature range. This will ensure a comfortable night’s sleep.
- Isomat or camping air mattress: Depending on how much space you have available, there are two types of mattress to choose from. Isomats provide a dry and warm base, while camping air mattresses provide much more comfort. The choice is yours.
- Depending on the length of the trip, you can also take camping chairs and a folding table. Especially if you are going to the campsite by car, this will provide you with even more comfort.
Supplies at a glance
In addition to a cosy place to sleep, supplies are a central aspect of camping. Only with sufficient energy can you experience your stay in the great outdoors without it becoming dangerous due to hunger and thirst.
- Water bottle: Essential for every camper is a water bottle. It should have a tight seal and provide you with water for a long period of time.
- Camping cookers: Gas cookers are the most suitable camping cookers. They are handy and can be started quickly using gas cartridges. If in doubt, use versions with an independent ignition device to make things easier.
- Cookware: Camping cookware includes different parts, depending on the set. A common feature of all sets is the ability to stack all components inside each other to significantly reduce space requirements.
- Cleaning utensils: Still pack cloths and sponges for washing and drying. Not only are dirty dishes unpleasant, leftover food attracts insects and animals.
- Pocket knife: Pocket knives are a must as they help in many situations. It is often used for preparing food.
Additional equipment for a safe camping trip
Of course, you should not camp exclusively with the utensils already mentioned. There is other equipment that should have room in your backpack:
- First aid kit: A kit should contain plasters, bandages, triangular bandages, medicines, disinfectant and safety pins. Tweezers, disposable gloves and a safety blanket can also be included. Kits that are already equipped are available cheaply and only need to be filled with individual medicines.
- Matches or lighter: These two tools make it easier for you to prepare food, boil water or help light a campfire.
- Toilet paper and soap: Toilet paper is always a good idea when camping. So is soap. A little hygiene on the campsite or in the wilderness is never wrong. When choosing soap, make sure it is biodegradable.
- Torch: A torch is an essential piece of camping equipment. Whether you use a hand torch or a head torch, it is indispensable in the dark. For example, if you go to the toilet at night, it will certainly show you the way.
- Camping hatchet: A handy hatchet is often much more useful than you think. You can split wood, hammer in nails and defend yourself in an emergency. Such universal hatchets are available for prices ranging from about 20 to 35 euros.
- Depending on the season, it is advisable to pack sunscreen and sunglasses. This way you protect yourself from harmful UV radiation. A mosquito repellent or long clothing is not wrong if you have to deal with the bloodsuckers.
