You can connect AirPods with your PS5, but you have to take a detour to do so. The direct way via the console Bluetooth does not work.
Connect AirPods to PS5 via USB Bluetooth dongle
The PS5 does have Bluetooth, but you can only connect the controllers to the console via it.
- If you want to pair another device such as AirPods with the PS5, an additional Bluetooth module is an option.
- You need a USB Bluetooth dongle with a pairing button for this. Without such a button it won’t work, because the PS5 menu doesn’t show Bluetooth modules.
- Push the Bluetooth stick into the console.
- The AirPods must be in the Case. Press the connect button on the Case until the LEDs flash white.
- Press the pairing button on the Bluetooth stick, the headphones should connect.
- Note: Even though the AirPods are now connected to the console, you cannot use the microphone on the headphones. So chatting through it is not possible. The headphones only play the audio.
Using AirPods via remote play app with PS5
Another option for using AirPods with PS5 is to use the Remote Play app.
- Download the Remote Play app to your Android or iOS device and stream the audio to your mobile device.
- Now you can connect your iPhone or iPad to the AirPods. You can also connect an Android smartphone with AirPods without much effort.
- You can also use AirPods for listening only with this method. The microphone will not work.
