Router settings: How to configure the router?

by Pramith

To be able to make router settings, you must first bring the router into the configuration state. How to do that easily, we explain in this practical tip.

Configure router settings: How to get to the user interface

To configure the router, you must be on the same network as the router. To do this, connect your computer or smartphone to your home network via WLAN or LAN. For initial configuration, you must connect the computer directly to the router via a LAN cable.

  • In order to access the router, you will need your browser and the IP address of the router. You can often find this IP address on the bottom of your router or in its user manual.
  • Some routers can also be accessed via abbreviations such as “fritz.box”, “speedport.ip”, “easybox” or “alice.box”. Enter the abbreviation or the IP address in the address line of your browser.
  • Often the IP address of your router is the number “192.168.1.1” or “192.168.2.1”. If you do not know the address, you can find out the IP address yourself.
  • The user interface of your router will open. Here you usually have to log in with a password. You will receive this password with the router. Look in the manual of the manufacturer. You now have access to your router and can configure it according to your wishes.
