Skype: How to restore history - Practical Tips

Skype: How to restore history

by Johannes

In Skype, you can chat with your friends as well as make phone calls. If you want to restore the deleted history of a contact, you have various options. In this practical tip, we will show you the exact procedure.

Restore Skype history – this is how it works

Skype regularly makes a backup of your chat history. You can restore these backups at any time in the telephony software:

  • Then double-click on the chat whose history you want to restore.
  • Click on the timestamp at the top to choose how far back in the chat you want to jump.

On a new PC: Manually restore Skype history

If you switch to a new PC with Skype, the recovery does not work via the program itself. In this case you have to copy the Skype folder from your old computer

  • To do this, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the path “C:\Users\”Your Windows username”\AppData\Roaming\Skype”. Replace “Your Windows username” with your actual username in Windows.
  • Then go to the folder named after your Skype username.
  • Copy this folder and paste it in the same path on your new PC. Then log in to Skype and the chat history is automatically restored.
