LG: Sorting the channel list on Smart TVs

by Johannes

Farer or later, frequent viewers in particular will not be able to avoid sorting the channel list on their Smart TV. There are also alternatives to the tedious sorting with the remote control.

Sort channel lists directly on the LG Smart TV

In any case, you can sort the channel list right on the device concerned.

  • On more modern LG televisions with WebOS as the operating system, you can sort the channel list by calling up the “All settings” menu via the TV menu.
  • Open the “Channel Manager” and navigate to the option “Edit all channels”.
  • You will now be shown a list of all the channels you have saved. Use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight a channel that you want to move.
  • After pressing the yellow button on your remote control, you can enter a number. This number is assigned to the transmitter by confirming it on the remote control.

Use ChanSort for sorting on the computer

Unfortunately, sorting the channel list is often very time-consuming. Fortunately, there are helpful tools like ChanSort that can adjust the sort order of the programmes.

  • Make sure a USB stick is connected to your smart TV.
  • Then navigate to the channel settings on your TV and export a *.tll file to the inserted USB stick.
  • Install the necessary software ChanSort on your computer and use it to open the previously generated file.
  • Click on “Reassemble”. Double-click on all the channels you want to have in your channel list. These will then appear on the left-hand side and can be sorted individually. All others are either deleted or added after all the other channels when you save them, depending on your settings.
  • Now save your changes back to the USB stick and insert it into the TV.
  • Navigate to the same menu as before and select “Copy channels”.

Use station favourites

Even more convenient than using small channel numbers, you can reach your favourite stations using the favourites. You can also sort your channels into categories.

    • Select all the channels you have prioritised one after the other and add them using the button that shows an arrow as a pictogram.
    • You can now reach all the selected channels at any time via the yellow button on your remote control.
